Kenelm is listed as being killed in action on 30 Aug 1918. The 2nd Battalion war diary entry and a newspaper obtiuary detailing his death are transcribed below. War DiaryEcoust - 30 Aug 1918 5am: the 76th Brigade attacked Ecoust. The objective was reached with slight casualties but owing to the battalion being unable to secure its flanks it had to fall back to the line of Ecoust Trench at about 11 am. Reinforcements Lt NE Cooper, 2 Lts A Lockwood, AP Baldwin, AW Hardy. During the night of the 30th-31st the battalion was relieved by the 13th King's Liverpools, came back to the line Mory Switch - Halley Avenue, between Mory and St. Leger. Newspaper ObituaryLeamington Spa Courier – September 13, 1918 Local War Items Mr and Mrs. C.H Passman have been officially informed of the death in action, on 24th ult. of their only son, Lieut Kenhelm Granby Passman, Suffolk Regiment. The young officer who 24 years of age, enlisted in the R. War R. in 1914 and in October of the following year obtained a commission in the Essex Regiment but subsequently, on application, was transferred to the Suffolks of which regiment Colonel Eardley-Wilmot was the commanding officer. Lieut Passman went to the Western Front in 1916. He was at Greyfriars Preparatory School from 1903 to 1907 and completed his education at Woodbridge Grammar School. His the eleventh old Greyfriars boy who has fallen in the war and the fourth of his school generation. Previous to enlisting he was articled to this father. Deep sympathy will be felt for Mr & Mrs Passman in their bereavement. |
