Our database is created from the Transcriptions of WW1 War Memorials, Plaque and Rolls of Honour containing the names of the men and women of the SWFHS area who fell in WW1. By no means yet complete the database now contains the records of 1366 men who fell in WW1 and we continue to add to it. Today, 21 Sep 2022, we added the details of the final 37 men who are named on the main Stratford on Avon War Memorial situated in Memorial Park. We are now researching the men named on other memorials in Stratford on Avon that are not included on this main memorial.

Please not that there are 4 of the names from the Supplemental Panel that we are still trying to find details about.

The information collected is ofter wide ranging and includes details of their Military Service, details of how, when, where and why they died along with personal and family history details. In due course we will be adding photographs and documents to the database. This is a long term project which will take another couple of years to complete at current pace and we do update the website when we add new data. Gaps in the data mean that we have yet to find that info. Click the last name for more details of the soldier. At the moment the database is only searchable by one field so we suggest either selecting All in the number of records for display then clicking the column header Last and then scroll down or search by last name. We have used a large number of sources to make sure that our records are as accurate as possible and in many cases we have discovered previously unpublished details. Our thanks to Kenneth Fowler and his book The County of Warwickshire Roll of Honour Vol 1, as well as the National Archives for making War Diaries free to download (contact us for any specific entry you might want), Ancestry.co.uk; Find My Past; Wikipedia; The Long Long Trail website for its excellent lists of location and not least the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Do you have photographs, documents or information about any of the men and women of South Warwickshire?, if you do we would be happy to received and publish them. Use our upload form by clicking here.
