Previous Regiment and Enlistment Information

Walter originally enlisted 7 Sep 1914 at Rugby as Private S/1667 in the 12th Bn Rifle Brigade. He was discharged as medically unfit on 19 Oct 1914 due to the fact he suffered from regular bouts of Rheumatism.

Walter again enlisted on 11 Dec 1915 in Coventry under the Lord Derby Scheme and went into the Army Reserve. On 16 May 1916 he was mobilised and joined the Royal Garrison Artillery.

Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Walter died of pnuemonia at Magdalen Camp Hospital, Winchester on 20 Feb 1919 and his remains were sent to Bubbenhall for burial. He was also suffering and/or recovering from malaria most likely caught in Salonika which had meant he was only allowed to serve in France or Italy where malaria was not present.
